The adaptation of Department Q has officially announced its lead actors. Ulrich Thomsen, known for his roles in The Blacklist and Banshee, will play Carl Mørck, the troubled detective. Alongside him, Zaki Youssef (Borgen) takes on the role of Assad, Mørck’s sharp-witted partner.

Fans of the books will recognize these characters instantly. The casting choices have been praised for staying true to the novels while bringing fresh energy.
What’s the Latest on Filming?
Production began earlier this year in Copenhagen. Recent set photos show key locations from the books, including the iconic Department Q basement office. The dark, moody aesthetic matches the tone of Adler-Olsen’s stories perfectly.
A source close to the production shared that filming is on schedule. If all goes well, we could see the first episodes by late 2024 or early 2025.
Why Is This Adaptation So Anticipated?
The Dept Q book series has sold millions worldwide. Its mix of gripping mysteries and deep character development makes it a favorite among crime fiction lovers.
The TV adaptation promises to stay faithful to the source material while adding cinematic flair. Early reports suggest intense performances and high production values.
How Does This Compare to Other Nordic Noir Shows?
Nordic Noir has given us hits like The Killing and Bordertown. Dept Q stands out because of its unique team dynamic. Unlike lone-wolf detectives, Mørck and Assad form an unlikely but compelling duo.
The series also dives into Denmark’s criminal underworld, offering a fresh setting compared to Swedish or Norwegian crime dramas.
Where Can You Watch Dept Q?
The show is expected to stream on major platforms. While no official deals have been announced, Netflix and Viaplay are strong contenders given their history with Nordic content.
For now, fans can revisit the books or check out the 2013 film adaptation, The Keeper of Lost Causes, to get a taste of what’s coming.
Final Updates & Fan Reactions
Social media is buzzing with excitement. Many fans are thrilled about the casting, especially Ulrich Thomsen’s portrayal of Mørck. Others are curious about how the show will handle the books’ darker themes.
One Reddit user wrote, “If they nail the chemistry between Mørck and Assad, this could be the next big crime series.”
