The Leap to the NBA: Seizing the Opportunity
After college, many players face an uphill battle to reach the NBA, but Sandro’s journey was unique. Although he went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, his strong performances in summer leagues and brief stints overseas showed teams his potential.
In 2022, Sandro signed a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers, allowing him to split time between the NBA and the G League. This chance was a major breakthrough.
Playing for the Pacers, Mamukelashvili quickly earned respect for his hustle and intelligent plays. What sets him apart is his ability to read the game like a seasoned veteran. Many coaches emphasize how his basketball IQ helps the team on both ends of the floor.

Why Mamukelashvili’s Style Works in the Modern NBA
The NBA today favors players who can do more than just score. Versatility and defense are prized. Sandro’s height (6’10”) combined with his agility lets him switch on defense, guard multiple positions, and contribute to fast break transitions.
Moreover, his shooting range is improving. While not yet a sharpshooter, his three-point percentage has climbed steadily, breaking 35% at times – a significant number for a forward. When looking at players like him, coaches imagine a future “stretch big,” capable of spacing the floor.
This type of player fits well in teams that run pick-and-rolls and need floor spacing, making Mamukelashvili a particularly attractive role player.
